latest small paintings

these are based on a couple of large paintings I did. I've always painted large canvases, but started painting small for DPW for the auction. I'm really getting addicted to this, they look so good when they're done and varnished, they look good enough to eat.

South Beach

This is a little 10x8 painting I did of Lincoln Road, South Beach. I was there visiting an old friend, we had lunch at Monty's then walked around Lincoln Road. It was a beautiful, sunny S. Florida day.
I took some photo's with my iphone, then I paint from the photo's, I used a couple of photo's but this was the main one.

The Guitarist

this is an abstract of a Guitarist in a jazz group I saw at a little club in Delray called the Backroom.
The music was so excellent, that night inspired many paintings. He is currently on auction at DPW

Sleep

These are two paintings, acrylic on clay board, they are from a large painting I did several years ago & is in  a private collection in Chicago. These are 6x8, the original was 30x48. It's a nice bedroom or bathroom painting. They look nice together, they are acrylic but will be varnished with dammar, it's just the best varnish for a painting.

Street Jazz

this is the latest in my small series of larger abstracts I have done, 8x10 oil on gesso board. The original was 33x54 and is in a private collection in Saudi Arabia. It was inspired by Jazz on the Avenue in Downtown Delray Beach, where they close off the main road from traffic and have live bands, artists, dancers every third Thursday. It's fun and attracts a lot of people.

The Fiddler

this is my Fiddler who is a character in a couple of my abstract musician paintings, he was inspired by a bass fiddler that played at Cafe Tu Tu Tango where I painted in the late 90's
It's 8x8 gesso board, in my small painting series not really a painting a day, it's more like 4 paintings a week. If I start doing a painting a day they're going to have to be acrylic, I like oils but they take too long to dry.

Bolero

my latest in the small series, 8x8 inspired by a large painting I did a few years ago.
It was inspired by a Jazz group called "Sound of Vision" their music was great.
They played at a place in Ft. Lauderdale called Blue Jean Blues.
This and several other works of mine will be at Linda White Gallery in Artists Alley, Delray Beach.
They have a fundraiser this Fri. and a big art event on Oct. 17, Thur. 5-8pm
Drop in if you're in the neighborhood

The Bleu Period

these paintings are from my small paintings of larger works series that I am currently working on,
This was my bleu period which involved my love of all the different shades of blue, cerulean, ultramarine, manganese, indigo, cobalt, prussian, pthalo, cyan there are so many, I love them all!
they are a celebration of blue

Indigo Blues, the 8x8 version of one of my larger pieces, it will be in my Daily Paint Works auction, check it out.
the inspiration for this painting was a dark, smokey blues club, well maybe it wasn't smokey because you can't smoke indoors anymore but you know what I mean.

Virtuoso

Virtuoso,
this is basically the method of my madness,
first sitting
sketch in pencil or paint,
fill in the colors like a coloring book
second sitting:
outline & details
when dry enough, varnish with dammar

I
I also rub some color on the blank canvas to give the painting an inner fire.
I also just noticed my Virtuoso needs a bow, haha

The Small Stuff

My new series of small versions of some of my favorite paintings that I no longer have but want to revisit. Since being on DPW, I've started painting small which I really didn't do much of before but I do like it. It's easier once you get used to it, a lot of my paintings are very large. It almost takes longer to actually paint small, but everything else is easier and more convenient. Your supplies last longer,  it's easy to store, easy to transport to galleries. framing. I'm becoming addicted.
Here are a couple of recent paintings, I've used canvas board but after trying gesso board, that is my fave.

So, the Caliente 7 story has a happy ending, I forgot to mention that after the changes I made for
"J" it still wasn't good for her. At that point, I changed it back to my original and blackballed her, she can't have one of my paintings now.
Anyway, this nice guy, I'll call "W" ordered prints from FAA, one being "Caliente" the other this painting called "Cellist with Cats". They emailed me and said my pics were bad & they canceled the order. Then "W" emailed me to complain, so I said hey why don't you just buy the originals? I'll give you a good deal. His first original art purchase, he was very pleased as was I.
Happy Ending

Thursday, August 15, 2013

this painting is called "Caliente 7", the seventh version of my original "Caliente" which was 33x54 oil on canvas. Anyway, I get a lot of interest in this painting and sometimes requests for it in a smaller  version. This one was requested by a person I shall just refer to as "J". She emailed me & gushed about how awesome I was, etc. I told her I could do the painting in acrylic 15x24 for $200 bucks.
She agreed, I did the painting and emailed her a pic, she said she loved it, but could I make the 2 people on the end look like her & her boyfriend, I did, emailed her a pic, she gushed how talented I was and could I give her another eye & bigger boobs, I did & emailed her a pic, she didn't like blue, could I change that, so I made the blues gray. Then she asked could all the guys have a moustache, I replied, it's finished, if you want it pay my paypal & I will ship it to you. Then she replies, could I make it more like the original because that one had more passion, needless to say I stopped communicating with her. Another day in the life of an online artist, haha

haven"t blogged lately, been busy, with my FUNctional Art Furniture series, this one is a trunk coffee table, I painted "Caliente" on it.  It was a painting of mine which people like, probably the composition is appealling or the name. Who knows. I put this on Ebay, it sold immediately, I would like that to happen a lot more often.

This is Red Reef Park in Boca Raton on A1A
Starting a new series of paintings, I take the pics while running at the beach, then I paint the scene from my ipad. This is a place that overlooks the beach at Red Reef Park, it's on A1A in Boca.
Very beautiful, this is on one side of the running path and the other side is a golf course.

"
"Bolero 5" this was a painting that sold a while ago. I'm having a front license plate made for my car
of this image with my website on it. I hope it's nice because I want to replace the crappy one that's on
my car. I ran across the site called signbuilder.com
we shall see.

"Jazz Trio 2" this is a painting I just did, it is 19x15 acrylic on linen,
I've been making small paintings from  paintings that I've sold that were originally large.
I like to revisit paintings that I like and no longer have, and I also use up left over pieces of canvas or linen. Waste not, want not.

Thursday, March 14, 2013

this is called "Bolero 5", one of a series of latino jazz paintings, this one sold a while ago but I feel like creating a smaller version. This one was pretty large, about 36x52

Sunday, March 10, 2013

this is a portrait of my son, who had a really nice guitar collection at the time, it's pretty big, 36x60
gallery wrap canvas.  A couple of musicians who play guitar asked me if they could use the image for their cd cover. I said go ahead, use it.

Salsa Night

This is Salsa Night 2 16x16 acrylic on linen, Hot Latino Jazz Band, rocking it out one night in Delray Beach.

Wednesday, February 20, 2013

I redid a painting that I had done a while ago and sold. Always get a great photo of your paintings before you let them go. A man in Germany wanted a print, the image wasn't good enough. So, I recreated the painting in acrylic and hopefully he'll get his print & everybody will be happy.
This one is called "Jazzz 2" 30x40

"Indigo Blues" 48x30 oil on gallery wrap canvas. My spin offs of the bar/musician/ dancer paintings,
I think when a scene is made more abstract it's more expressive.

Tuesday, February 5, 2013

"L'amour ou Quoi" is one of a long series of "bleu guys" paintings. I was obsessed with blue for quite a while. There are a lot of different blues, there's ultramarine, cerulean, manganese, cobalt, mineral, prussean, pthalo, indigo, just to name a few. There's usually the head of an evil being getting crushed, good always prevails.

Lute & Flute

This is called "Lute & Flute", I like painting people playing musical instruments, and I've painted a lot of cellos, many flutes, tubas, pianos, sax's, but realized one day I had never painted a lute. So I painted a couple of lute themed paintings. This one in acrylic on textured linen, gallery wrap.

Saturday, February 2, 2013

"Street Tango" this is an acrylic on linen 36x52 gallery wrap.  Inspired by Jazz on the Avenue in Delray Beach, FL.  They block off a part of Atlantic Avenue every third Thursday night of the Month.
There are jazz bands, dancers, magicians, balloon artists and of course artists. There is a gallery walk and all the art galleries have wine & are open til 11pm. It's a lot of fun and is usually very busy.

Friday, February 1, 2013

these are my latin musicians, they are so good and full of energy they make everybody want to get up and dance. This is an acrylic version, the first one was an oil. I basically work in acrylics now because they are so much easier and faster than oils. This is 24x36 gallery wrap canvas.

Tuesday, January 29, 2013

This is called "Caliente 2" people dancing, having a really good time, high energy. I went to Salsa Night at Kevro's Art Bar and it totally inspired a lot of paintings. This one went to a restaurant up north, I thing it was NY.

Sunday, January 27, 2013

This is currently my favorite, I like the composition and the bongo man, it has a cascading feel to it.
I like to create a feeling of movement and dramatic color and line, I want the viewer to feel good.
It is currently hanging in a gallery in Delray, in a place called Artists Alley, a colony of artists who are creating a colony of art studios. There are a lot of great art to see and purchase.  /

Saturday, January 26, 2013

" The Bleu Piano" will be hanging out on South Beach, check him out at The Astor Hotel on Washington ave.  I'm reconnecting with my Miami roots. I do miss some places in Miami, after all I grew up there.

Two to Tango

I haven't blogged in a while, but I keep hearing that blogging is a must!
I basically used to paint bar scenes and sometimes still do, but my ultimate end is a cubist type of
version of that bar scene. This painting is actually 2 paintings when hung together become one.
"Two to Tango"  46x40 or (2) 46x20, acrylic on gallery wrap canvas.
